PAPER #2: THE PLAN

Perspective of the Plan of Salvation and the Savior and His Atonement

The second thing that we asked the students to do was to look at the issue that they were assigned through the lens of the Perspective of the Plan of Salvation and defending the Savior and His Atonement.

Often, it seems, that people will discuss issues but never think about how those issues effect the Plan of Salvation, and how the Savior Atoned for all of it. When we remember these vital Eternal issues, it can change our thinking and invite the Holy Ghost to teach in deeply powerful ways.

PAPER INSTRUCTIONS

The second thing that we would like you to do, when working on the issue that your team has been given this semester is to look at it through the lens of the Perspective of the Plan of Salvation and the Savior and His Atonement. 

Write a paper (approx. 2 pages in length) that will show people who come across your website the issue as it relates to the Plan of Salvation. Think of guiding questions that can help you in your research. For example (using our abortion topic again) - 

• How does abortion relate to the Plan?

• What would happen to the Plan if women refused to have children?

• What would happen to the Plan of Salvation if people didn't believe in the sanctity of life? 

You also need to look at this topic from the Perspective of defending the Savior and His Atonement. Think of guiding questions there: 

• How might the Savior feel about an abortion (don't forget to look at compassion, mercy, and justice for both the child and the mother)?

• What scriptures teach about the way the Savior feels about children? 

• What scriptures might help a person who had an abortion to be able to have hope and feel close to the Savior again? 

Again, this is not to be written in a sarcastic, "holier-than-thou", preachy, or contentious attitude (thus allowing Satan to have a field-day with the emotions of the readers). Remember, many people have had life experiences that make them think a certain way and if they feel like those experiences are being belittled or maligned, then they will build up walls of resistance.

This paper is to be written in terms that show the reader that there is understanding of the way that they think, but there are Eternal Truths that also need to be taken into consideration. Through the power of the Holy Ghost, there are new ways to understand the problems of life ... truths, that if understood (like the power of forgiveness and repentance through the Savior's Atonement), that could open up channels of communication to God for everyone on this earth. 

Instructions 

• Write a well researched paper 

• Give arguments about the paper that support the Perspective of the Plan of Salvation and the Savior and His Atonement.

• 2-3 pages in length (approx. 500 words)

• Use 4-5 credible sources (these should be gospel related - scriptures and prophetic words) 

• Each person on the team will write their own and turn it into this assignment space. Then (next week) you will review each other's work.
